The mission of Torchlight Youth Mentoring Alliance is to foster the development of youth to reach their highest potential as responsible, adaptable, caring adults.
Torchlight Youth Mentoring Alliance accomplishes this by providing a quality volunteer mentoring relationship with a supportive adult, as well as educational programs which are supervised by the agency’s professional staff.

Community Based/Traditional One-on-One Match
In this program, a child (mentee) is paired with an adult (mentor) of the same sex; in a couple’s match, a married couple (of at least one year) can be matched with a boy or girl. Matches are based upon specific needs and similar interests to help build a health relationship and address any needs in a positive, healthy way. On average, 30 children are waiting to be matched; most are boys.
C.O.U.L. (Club of Unmatched Littles)
Children waiting for their match participate in fun and active monthly staff-supervised events in the C.O.U.L. club. Volunteers supervise and interact with the children during these events; we would love to have more volunteers-the more the merrier!
Lake and Geauga Foster Care Programs
Lake and Geauga foster youth (12-24) participate in our foster care group mentoring program. Adult volunteers participate in weekly activities designed to build critical life skills for the teens as they age out of foster care. Volunteers drive the program’s success by offering consistency, guidance, and hope to the youth. This program meets weekly on Saturday mornings for Lake County and Tuesday early evenings for Geauga County.
School/Site Based Mentoring
This program provides college/high school students (mentors) an opportunity to mentor elementary/middle school children (mentees) on the school (or site) premises. Both mentors and mentees grow academically and socially in a group mentoring situation. A Torchlight coordinator supervises and facilitates mentor/mentee interactions during the weekly two-hour sessions. Torchlight currently has programs in schools throughout Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties.
